Before the next night: look after yourself and each other

A practical guide to consent, respect, hearing, rest and getting help at an event.

A good night depends on how we look after ourselves and one another. Before the next RAW event, keep these practical basics in mind, for yourself and for the people around you.

Consent can change

Consent must be freely given, clear and mutual. A yes applies only to what was agreed, and anyone can change their mind at any time. If you are unsure, ask. If the answer is unclear, stop.

Respect also means giving people space and accepting a refusal without pressure. Harassment, intimidation and discriminatory behaviour do not belong at an event.

Everyone deserves respect

Everyone is welcome and should be treated with respect, regardless of gender, origin, orientation, identity, disability or social background. Pay attention to the space you take up and to how your behaviour affects people around you.

If someone says that your behaviour is making them uncomfortable, listen and step back. Do not turn it into an argument.

Pay attention to people around you

If someone appears unwell or unsafe, do not leave them alone. Alert the venue or event team and explain what you observed. Stay calm, avoid assumptions and share factual information.

Do not diagnose the person or give medical advice. Getting appropriate help early is the useful action.

Protect your hearing and take breaks

High sound levels can affect your hearing. Use hearing protection and take breaks away from the loudest areas. Notice fatigue, discomfort and changes in how you feel.

Drink water regularly and make time to rest. If something does not feel right, pause and ask the venue or event team for help.

Keep care practical

Harm reduction starts with factual information, calm support and no judgement. You do not need to know exactly what happened before helping someone reach the appropriate venue or event staff.

Read the full RAW values and harm-reduction principles. Upcoming dates are on the Events page. To report a concern connected to a RAW activity after an event, use the contact form and provide only the information needed to understand the situation.
